This collection has many important objects representing the art of Mesopotamia, Persia, the Levant, and Anatolia. Outstanding among them are the head of Gudea, ruler of Lagash, a group of reliefs from the Assyrian palaces at Nimrud and Nineveh, a glazed brick panel of a striding lion from the processional way at Babylon, fine ceramics, and reliefs from Persepolis, capital of the Achaemenian Empire.
