Description
Throughout the twentieth century artists have used images taken from a variety of sources including art history, advertising, and the media. Baechler, however, examines familiar images from unsophisticated sources and has even used other people's drawings in his own compositions.  In this work, he boldly and simply painted an ordinary flower springing forth from a patchwork of fabric scraps that includes a restaurant napkin and embroidered scarves.  This large canvas is one of six he created for an exhibition at the Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland, in 1998.
