This paintings belongs to one of two illustrated copies of the Tutinama that are known to have been made in the last sixteenth century in India. In the text, a parrot tells stories to the wife of a merchant who is off traveling. For each night that the woman's husband is away at sea, the parrot tells a different tale, distracting the woman from thoughts of another man.
