Description
The tone block used in the first state of Bartsch XII.111.8, as shown in The Illustrated Bartsch, covers much of the print, including the four corners outside of the oval borderline but inside the outer rectangular borderline. However, the tone block used in this impression looks similar to, and may be, one of the tone blocks used in Bartsch XII.111.7, and covers only the same area covered by the line block, with the result that almost all of the background area, including the four corners, is blank.
