Description
This impression is of a state not described by Bartsch. It has the date 1721, rather than the 1722 described by Bartsch. The Illustrated Bartsch illustrates an impression also with the date 1721, but this MFA impression differs from that illustrated in TIB in several respects: the point of the halberd no longer extends to the upper margin; the darker tone blocks are cut away (about 5-7 mm in height and width) in the upper right, lower left, and lower right corners; and there are some differences in the apostle's hair.
ProvenanceW.G. Russell Allen (b. 1882 - d. 1955), Boston; 1968, bequest of W. G. Russell Allen to the MFA. (Accession Date: September 11, 1968)
