Description
Farm buildings and trees are captured here with free and rhythmic strokes, concentrated between an open sky and foreground, in a composition whose unusual horizontal format and confident penmanship recall landscapes by the seventeenth-century Dutch artist Rembrandt, whom Millet admired.
