Description
This preparatory drawing for Millet's major painting "Harvesters Resting (Ruth and Boaz)," also in the exhibition, helps us understand his careful process of study and planning on paper, in the tradition of many great European artists.  After laying out his initial ideas, Millet did careful studies of individuals and light and shadow, of which this a particularly fine example.
