Provenance15th century, Huang Yun; given to Shen Zhou (b. 1427 - d. 1509) and returned to Huang Yun [see note]. 1956, sold by Frank Caro and Co., New York to the MFA for $6,000. (Accession Date: October 11, 1956)
NOTE: Zhou Di's Scenery of Yixing was owned by Huang Yun, and was given by his son, Huang Yuanling, to Shen Zhou. In gratitude, Shen Zhou created Autumn View of Tongguan for him. Huang Yun became upset that Scenery of Yixing had been given away; Shen Zhou subsequently returned the work, at which point it was mounted together with the Autumn View of Tongguan.
