NOTES:
[1] Probably the painting described as by Bassan[o], "Taking Down from the Cross," which was exhibited at Doggett's and then sold through Blake and Cunningham. [2] When the painting entered the collection of the MFA, it was attributed to Francesco Bassano and called "Deposition from the Cross." A painting bearing that attribution and title were exhibited at the Boston Museum and Gallery of Fine Arts on Tremont Street in 1841, 1844, and 1847. Moses Kimball founded the Boston Museum, which was open from 1841 until 1903. [3] Probably identical to the Bassano "Deposition from the Cross" recorded in Appleton's collection, Art Amateur 1880, p. 118.
