NOTES:
[1] In a signed statement (October 29, 1924), Marcel Nicolle attested that he had purchased this painting in Paris from Germano Volpe, who declared that it represented Rosario Persico and had come from his family. [2] Nicolle was a dealer with Trotti et Cie. Heilbuth acquired several paintings from him. [3] Many paintings from Heilbuth's collection were subsequently with Ehrich Brothers; see, for example, MFA accession no. 23.272.
