ProvenanceSaid to have been presented to Revolutionary war General Nathanael Greene (1742-1786) and so engraved, although the engraving was probably added later; offered for sale in December 1940 by the New York City dealer C.W. Lyon; in the collection of a Mrs. Breyer of Philadelphia in the twentieth century; acquired about 1964 by Jesse M. Bontecou, Millbrook, New York; acquired from the Bontecou collection at an auction in Pleasant Valley, New York (near Millbrook), by the donor.
