ProvenanceAcquired by the donor August 28th, 2000, purchased from the estate of Leonore Walther, Washington D.C.Ms. Walther was born in 1916 in Yokohama. Her father, Jean Walther was a Belgian citizen of German origin. He was a prominent Yokohama businessman (insurance business). She resided in Japan until 1950. She was then repatriated by the USA to Washington in appreciation of her work with the Army of Occupation. Walther brought these with her from Yokohama to Washington D.C. as souvenirs of her residence in Japan. She acquired them in the Taisho or early Showa period.
