Description
Known for capturing the translucent light of the northeastern coast of the United States in both watercolor and oils, the largely self-taught Bricher earned a reputation for having "painted his way through New York and New England."  He exhibited regularly at the Boston Athenaeum and at the National Academy of Design in New York, and his marine paintings were widely acclaimed during his lifetime.  His travels took him to Narragansett, Point Judith, and Sakonnet in Rhode Island; Beverly, Marblehead and Cape Ann in Massachusetts; and Cape Elizabeth, Grand Manan, and Casco Bay, Maine.  For his subject here, he visited Cohasset, on Boston's south shore, where he spent summers from 1892-1897.
