Description
In this sequence of 7 photographs from a series of 18, the Cologne-based team creates a domestic interior gone out of control. The artists' work often addresses family life, intimately examining the beautiful and the ugly of home. The German title of this piece plays on the words "living room" (Wohnzimmer) and "madness" (Wahn) which translates as "the room of madness". . The artists' background in theater and performance art provides a basis for their compositions. Through close-up camera angles and stop-action photography the Blumes turn a household into a chaotic space. In the photographs, the two artists are seen jumping after or away from several household items that are floating in the air or seemingly attacking them. Life is out of control in a space that is no longer mastered by human beings but by objects. The universal experience of the lack of harmony at home and our attempts just to survive each day are a likely basis for this humorous interpretation of family life.
