During the War of 1812, "Constitution" carried thirty, 24-pound cannons on her gun deck. Carriages made of elm supported these cast-iron cannons. The bore of each gun was nearly six inches in diameter and ten feet in length. The cannon was fired by six pounds of powder, and the ball traveled as far as 1,200 yards.
