Description
Unlike many of their contemporaries who focused on color and glaze experiments, the Scheiers frequently portrayed human figures and other images on the surface of their pots. These abstracted, simplified designs in sgraffito decoration—scratching through one layer of glaze to reveal another—related to the larger international abstract art movement prevalent in the mid-20th century.
