InscriptionsInventory number engraved on underside of lid: "No: 2. [in script]". Inventory number and weight engraved on underside of tureen: "No: 2. 9 ms [marks] 11 1/8 lh [all in script]." Engraved on lid and tureen: Hanoverian arms of Great Britain (in use 1714-1801).

[1] In 1816, the Elector of Hanover assumed the title of King.

[2] Because by Salic law a woman could not inherit the throne of Hanover, upon the succession of Queen Victoria of England in 1837, the crown passed to the oldest surviving son of George III.
