ProvenanceAccording to family tradition, as recorded by the last private owner, the original owner of this sideboard was Koert DuBois (1763-1831), born in Fishkill (later Pleasant Valley), Duchess County, New York, and who married Elizabeth Burroughs (1768-1856) in 1786; by descent to their son, Peter Koert DuBois (1796-1872); by descent to his daughters, Dr. Mary DuBois (1832-1908) and Miss Sarah DuBois (1836-1913), of Pleasant Valley; they bequeathed it in their wills to their nephew, Paul L. DuBois (1876-1937) of Concord, New Hampshire; he in turn left it to his widow, Katherine, in 1937; purchased, probably in 1937 or shortly thereafter, for $1,650 from Mrs. Katharine B. Dubois (1874-1952), 10 Court Street, Concord, New Hampshire, for The M. and M. Karolik Collection of Eighteenth-Century American Arts (Accession Date October 9, 1941)
