Description
Ed Wiener was a leading figure in the New York circle of Modernist jewelers active in the 1940s and 1950s. In his early pieces, such as his 1949 necklace, he used textured and hammered surfaces to make his hand-craftsmanship visible, thereby protesting the "dehumanization" of the machine age. He was particularly interested in the abstract forms of the new non-objective (abstract) art and the kineticism of Calder's jewelry and mobiles.
