DescriptionMargaret de Patta's ring of about 1947-48 embodies principles of Constructivist design she learned from Lázló Moholy-Nagy at the New Bauhaus in Chicago. That early twentieth-century movement emphasized geometry, reflected light, motion, transparency, and spatial organization. De Patta expressed these concepts by using geometric forms and unusual materials, such as rutilated quartz (a clear stone with needle-like crystals embedded within it). Her pioneering work earned her recognition as a seminal figure in the field of studio jewelry.
