Description
This drawing, closely related to the nude in his painting Room No. V, exhibits Cortor’s characteristic elongation of the female figure, describing an elegant arc from nape to fingertips. Dense networks of scratched pen lines coalesce to create volumetric form, while reserved areas of the light brown paper suggest highlights on the woman’s breasts, torso, and sheer stocking.
ProvenanceFrom the artist to the parents of Vivian Bridaham, Bozeman, MT; by descent to Bridaham; December 8, 1992, sold by Bridaham to George Wein, New York, NY; gift of George Wein to the MFA. (Accession Date: March 21, 2007)
