NOTES:
[1] Possibly Henri Foulon de Vaulx (b. 1844 - d. 1929) and/or his son, André Foulon de Vaulx (b. 1873 - d. 1951), Paris. This panel was originally part of a series of the twelve months, which had been broken up no later than about the mid-twentieth century; four of them (January, February, October, and December) were said to come from the de Vaulx collection. See Reine de Bertier de Sauvigny: Jacob et Abel Grimmer: Catalogue Raisonné (1991), pp. 94, 100, cat. nos. 4-8 (cat. no. 5 for the present panel).

[2] By 1963, the four panels were in Fourcroy collection, at that time attributed to Martin van Valckenborch. See Le Siècle de Bruegel: La peinture en Belgique au XVIe siècle (Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels, September 27 - November 24, 1963), cat. no. 226. They remained together until they were sold through Christie's in 2000.
