Bacon (b. 1800 - d. 1867), Boston; to her daughter, Adelaide Joanna Bacon (Mrs. George D.) Sargent (b. 1838 - d. 1931), Boston [see note]; 1931, to her daughter, Mary Adelaide Sargent (Mrs. Clarence Henry) Poor (b. 1863 - d. 1962), Boston; 1947, gift of Mary Adelaide Sargent Poor to the MFA. (Accession Date: September 18, 1947)
NOTE: The chest was first lent to the MFA in 1916 by Mrs. George D. Sargent. When it was made a gift in 1947, Mrs. Poor stated that it had "belonged to a line of Bulkeley ancestors and my beloved mother Adelaide Joanna Sargent." She indicated it had come from the Bulkeley mansion in Boston, where her grandmother, Mary Ann Bulkeley Hewes, was born.
