Although inspired by 18th-century French prototypes, this chest of drawers has typically English features, such as bracket feet, a wood top in place of a marble slab, and mahogany veneers. Mahogany came into use in English furniture early in the 18th century, as supplies of the exotic wood entered London through trade with the West Indies.
