InscriptionsSTICK: MARKS: in each corner of the underside of base, maker's mark BI with a crown above and a bird below (like Grimwade 178); lion's head erased; Britannia; date letter c (1698/9). ARMORIALS: engraved on the base, arms of Grey (of Groby), Earl of Stamford, with Maynard in pretense. SCRATCHES: engraved on underside of base, "Bere Alston." BRANCH: MARKS: on bezel, maker's mark ?W with a crown above (prob.Bennett 298); harp crowned twice; Hibernia. On a finial of one scroll branch, harp crowned. On a finial of another scroll branch, Hibernia. On each waxpan, harp crowned and Hibernia. On each nozzle, harp crowned. ARMORIALS: engraved on each waxpan and on the central shaft, the crest of Lambert/Lambart, Cromie, Fitzmaurice, and O'Cornyn, all Irish, or the English families of Ackelom and Fitch. (crest: a sagittarius).
