Model for a Garden Pavillion

This architectural model resembles the garden pavilions of Dresden's Zwinger palace, inspired by Louis XIV's palace at Versailles. Even at this small scale, the half-figures who emerge from the columns at the corners provide a sense of the dramatic effect of a full-scale building, which would have been made of stone. This model is a rare survival that was probably intended to present an idea to a patron; it even includes a suggestion for the painted decoration of the interior walls.
