Description
The artist Michael Mazur was a friend and inspiration to many, and a major cultural figure in New England and beyond. His contemporary, Varujan Boghosian, alluded to Mazur’s love of painting, music, poetry, the natural world, and studio life in this sculptural homage, a three-dimensional work including a paint-splattered apron, a flute, and flowers. An American artist of Armenian descent, Boghosian was known for assemblage in two and three dimensions. He studied with Josef Albers at Yale and, like his teacher, built on the legacy of Dada and the Surrealists, often incorporated unexpected combinations of shapes or symbols as well as humor and whimsy into his compositions.
