Leza McVey abandoned the potter’s wheel, preferring to hand-build her ceramic sculptures from slabs of clay. Influenced by Surrealism, her playful work is animated with an anthropomorphic quality. Her rounded, biomorphic forms reflect similar shapes found in abstract painting of the era. McVey’s surface decoration, however, was perhaps inspired by the patterns of her own woven textiles.
