Neel finds inspiration in both images discovered online and in animal remains in the Vermont landscape, creating a painted, pearlescent haze pocked with red bites. She builds her imagery through a series of “moves.” The canvas, resting on the floor, might be covered in part by a dropped cloth and paint spattered around its edges. Lines might be brushed across tape or defined by clear gestures. Subsequent moves might contradict the logic of what came before, but together they establish a complex depiction of space – framed and flattened, deep and condensed, virtual and visceral.
