Description
This Meissen dish is closely modeled on a Chinese one to the left. Although there is some debate whether the painter's mark is "K" or "T" on the reverse, and whether "K" stands for the artist Kilmberger, Kretzschmar, or  David Koehler, there is no doubt that underglaze blue decoration at Meissen during this period was highly successful and nearly indistinguishable from the Chinese original.
ProvenanceFebruary 11, 1963, sold by J. J. Klejman (dealer; b. 1906 - d. 1995), New York, to R. Thornton Wilson (b. 1886 - d. 1977), New York; 1965, gift of R. Thornton Wilson to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 13, 1965)

NOTE: From 1963 until it was made a gift, this object was on loan to the MFA from R. Thornton Wilson.
