InscriptionsText in Prakrit throughout. Some paintings have titles or headings, also written in Prakrit. Although the colophon does not give a date, it does give the names of the donors: Lalatu and Madi, daughters of Ratna and Bhrama, wives of Samgha son of Jaitisha. The colophon praises the Ukesha, or Oswal, family, suggesting that the donors are of that lineage. The colophon also cites the members of the Jnanakiya sect in whose honor the manuscript was given: Mahendra Suri and Pandit Gunacandra, disciples of Dhanesvara Suri. See AKC, Vol. IV, for full text and translation of colophon.ProvenanceMade for members of the Osval Jain family, in honor of members of the Jnanakiya sect, according to the manuscript colophon; by 1916, purchased in India by Ananda K. Coomaraswamy (b. 1887 - d. 1947); 1917, sold by Ananda K. Coomaraswamy to Denman Waldo Ross (b. 1853 - d. 1935), Cambridge, MA; 1917, given by Denman Waldo Ross to the MFA.
