Description
Egg sets or cruets were a regular part of the Georgian and Victorian table. This set, comprised of a tray, six egg cups, and matching spoons, was produced by George Gordon & Co. in India around 1840. George Gordon & Co. was founded by George Gordon II, Robert Gordon III, John Law, and Andrew Barron in Madras (now Chennai) in 1821. They were known for silversmithing and goldsmithing as well as jewellery, clocks, and watches. They also ran auctions, especially in 1847, during a period of surplus stock of crystal, plated wares, jewellery, and sundries. In 1848, the company closed permanently.
