Description
In the 1960s, Robert Barry was an early pioneer of conceptual art, which prizes the ideas behind an artwork above all else. He was among the first to replace traditional visual forms with language which continues to play an important part in his work. Here, scattered across the vivid yellow surface of each canvas, is a play of open-ended words that we are free to interpret. The canvases are connected enigmatically by “together” and “almost.”
Provenance2014, consigned by the artist to Barbara Krakow Gallery, Boston, MA; 2014, sold by Barbara Krakow Gallery to the MFA. (Accession Date: June 25, 2014)
