Description
During the 1870s the Worcester Porcelain Company responded to the fashionable craze for the exotic by experimenting with different forms, materials, and decorative techniques. Charles and William Binns, sons of the factory's artistic director, probably were responsible for the matte glaze and the gold and bronze finishes used on this piece. Thomas Sanday designed the printed decoration, is based on a combination of Islamic ornament and Japanese pattern.
