Description
Marks was an outstanding practitioner of chasing, a decorative technique in which detail is created on a metal surface with fine, small hammers and punches. This dish is elaborately chased with sea hollies, and such floral designs were characteristic of Marks's rich, individual style. These naturalistic designs were based upon the bold floral motifs popular in silver of the late seventeenth century.
InscriptionsEngraved on underside, Gilbert marks' 96.
