NOTES:
[1] According to Sagot-Le Garrec, the gallery acquired the print on April 5, 1919. It is not known from whom, although the gallery’s founder, Edmond Sagot (b. 1857 – d. 1917) had already acquired Félix Bracquemond’s atelier from his estate. As Bracquemond assisted Manet in printing this etching, it is possible that the print came from the Bracquemond estate as well.

[2] The print was included in the exhibition “Dessins, Aquarelles, Eaux-Fortes et Lithographies de Édouard Manet,” Sagot-Le Garrec, April 7-19, 1930, cat. no. 30; and was published by Marcel Guérin, L’Oeuvre grave de Manet (Paris: Librairie Floury, 1944), cat. 33, as in the Le Garrec collection. During World War II, the ownership of certain items of stock were transferred from the gallery to the family.
