PHILLIP HENRY SHERIDAN: born Albany, N.Y., 1831; died, 1888, served with distinction through Civil War. His famous ride took place at the battle of Cedar Creek, Va., in 1864. He was at Winchester, twenty miles away when he heard the defeat. Galloping to the scene, by his daring he turned his fleeing soldiers and won a victory.

Remains returned to United States in 1906 and interred at Annapolis.
