As the recent exhibition Boston made attests, Boston was a hub for American arts and crafts metalwork and jewelry, during the early twentieth century. Boston's progressive Arts and Crafts community also supported the rise of prominent women metalworkers, such as Mary Catherine Knight. In her role as the head designer of a silversmithing workshop dominated by men, Knight developed her own decorative style in which she used leather-tooling techniques on silver, often adding enamel to her designs as well. The offered mayonnaise set - comprised of a bowl, plate, and spoon - is an excellent example of her work with rare green colored enamel.
