NOTE: According to the donor, his father found the painting rolled up inside of a rug, which he purchased around 1935 in Montclair, at the estate sale of a Presbyterian missionary who had spent many years in Peru. He did not know the name of the missionary, who had died either just before or just after returning to the United States.
