Description
The first decade after the October Revolution of 1917 saw a period of wild abandon in graphic art in the young Soviet Union. For a brief moment, the radical experiments that the new regime fostered in economic and social arrangements were echoed in the visual arts. Solomon Teligater was among the most inventive designers of the period, taking advantage of the freedom presented by photomontage and free-form typography to transform book covers into full-on graphic experiements. This pamphlet of poems by the futurist-inspred Semen Kirsanov is among Teligater's most famous designs. The volume is quite small, but Kirsanov's bold use of justaposed letters and clipped images gives it the eye-grabbing impact of a poster.
