Descriptive - Samuel de Champlain, the discoverer of the lake, was born in Brouage, Saintonge, on the Bay of Biscay, in 1567, and died in Quebec, Canada, Dec. 25, 1635. He made several voyages to America, and in 1608 he founded the city of Quebec, and in July, 1609, he discovered the lake bearing his name.
