NOTE: A signed typewritten note taped to the back of the drawing’s frame read "Fidelia Bridges was a close friend of my grandfather, Oliver Ingraham Lay, 1845 – 1890 and my mother's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William A Brown. I frequently visited her in Canaan, Conn. until her death in 1923./ The following described painting by Fidelia Bridges was among those given to the family and subsequently to me./ George C. Lay" (An oil portrait of Fidelia Bridges by Oliver Ingraham Lay is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.)
