Description

In addition to "official" displays of engineering, inventions, and art, every World’s Fair had quirky side attractions as well. One of the most popular in 1900 was the Guillaume brothers’ theater, where puppets acted out scenes from Parisian life. The show changed regularly, offering a satirical take on the events of the day. These cards reproduce part of the theater’s painted exterior.

Provenance1950s through 2017, sold by various postcard dealers in Europe and the United States to Leonard A. Lauder, New York; 2017, gift of Leonard A. Lauder to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 14, 2017)
