Description
This silver bracelet was made by the Navajo lapidary artist Lyndon Tsosie in the 1990s. It combines inlaid lapis lazuli, sugilite, spiny oyster, coral, and bolder opal for a striking arrangement of colors. Tsosie's work is well known; he has won awards at Santa Fe's Indian Market and at other art festivals. Tsosie’s work is featured in the book Southwest Jewelry. This bracelet by Tsosie joins the other Navajo inlaid bracelets by contemporary Native American jewelers in the MFA's collection. Examples include a cuff bracelet by Aaron Toadlena from the 1970s/1980s (1999.218), and a turquoise mosaic bracelet by Angie Reano Owen from 1995 (1998.57).
