Ties That Bind

Random Order Series: Ties That Bind, created by basketry fiber artist Dawn Walden on 2010 is made of material that grow in the area of northern Michigan where the artist, a member the Mackinac Band of the Chippewa and Ottawa, orientates.

A masterwork of Ojibway artist Dawn Walden, Random Order Series: Ties That Bind would become a foundational acquisition for the NFA's collection of contemporary Native American baskets, demonstrating the vitality of the textile arts among Native American women in the 21tst century. Its strong sculptural presence would potentially engage visitors to the Native American gallery, this work of art would hold its own place in a range of the MFA's permanent gallery or as featured object on the one museum's digital platform. Walden recently received the Beresford prize from Untired states Artist in 2018 for her work in supporting the arts.
