Description
Gordon Parks is one of the most important photographic artists who is frequently quoted as using his camera as, a "weapon against poverty and racism." This color photograph, which would be the first color photograph by Parks to enter the collection, shows what could be a Civil Rights march or a busy Sunday in Harlem and speaks to how Parks could use a positive image to support his ideals. A young man at center holds up a newspaper which proclaims, “Our Freedom Can’t Wait!” His smiling face suggests a knowledge and pride of Parks’ documentation.
