Description

Artist and master printer Nicola López combines both drawing and printmaking in her practice of installation. "Water" is part of her print series titled “Earth, Water, Fire, and Air,” exhibited alongside a monumental monoprint installation in "Transformation City" in 2008.  The artist's statement was “The landscape that we live in has become saturated with signs of the easy mobility, speed, constant communication, imposition of structure, insistence on growth and glorification of technology that have come to be so characteristic of our society today. My work incorporates these signs, exaggerating and reconfiguring them in order to build maps that convey the sense of wonder and vertigo that is inevitable as we face the landscape of today’s world.”   The artist’s subject matter – a vertiginous skyward view of overlapping skyscrapers inundated by waves of water – is all the more prescient today in view of the current global climate crisis.
