Description
This is a copy, in slightly smaller format, of Morghen's print, Halsey 84. Halsey gives the dimensions of the print as 37 x 20 5/8" (i.e., height 52.4 cm, width 94.0 cm). The two impressions of the Morghen print in the MFA are M12878 (51.6 x 94 cm) and M1582 (51.6 x 92.7 cm). This print is 45.6 x 76.5 cm. It is apparently intended to imitate an early proof state of the Morghen print, for the only head that is finished is that of Judas, as in Halsey's second Trial Proof state of Morghen's print. However, this print does not have the inscription called for by Halsey in his second Trial Proof state.
ProvenanceHenry F. Sewall, New York (1816-1896)(Lugt 1309); purchased by MFA November 1897
