Description
Bartsch describes this print as a copy after the original by Agostino Veneziano. Passavant says that all impressions of the print without the initials "A.V." (such as this one) have the address of Antonio Salamanca, and are retouched impressions of Veneziano's original. This impression does not have Salamanca's publication line. A comparison of this impression with the impression illustrated in The Illustrated Bartsch indicates that this is indeed a copy, and that Passavant is mistaken.
ProvenanceBaron Henri de Triqueti, Paris (1802-1874)(Lugt 1304); an unidentified collector (not in Lugt); Henry F. Sewall, New York (1816-1896)(Lugt 1309); purchased by MFA November 1897
