The complicated, carved facade of this chest is divided into three tiers in a way that recalls the Italian Mannerist style. Each of the lunettes on the upper rail contains diagonal flower buds and is surrounded by incised and punched borders. The four principal panels contain leaves set within arches, while the drawer front is embellished with large and small rosettes. Divisions between the sections were created through the use of vertical and horizontal channel moldings, painted black to imitate ebony.
